We (HPA) are involved to the extent of advising UK government of potential health risks to UK nationals in Japan and, especially, to UK Search and Rescue Teams deployed in Japan as part of the international response.

However this is fairly basic public health and health and safety advice probably similar to what other institutions internationally are giving to their own governments - I don't think there is any special expertise we would claim at this stage.

Happy to share what we have said if that is helpful - but it is all probably available on CNN, Sky News, BBC etc...
